Good Hair v. Bad Hair

So I was checking out the celebrity gossip blogs today and I came across this movie trailer from Chris Rock. I was just thinking about this the other day. It's crazy that this is the type of world we live in today. Almost everyone has a weave, perm, relaxer etc. to get their hair straight. What happened to the natural look. Like back in the 70s when African American women wore natural Afros. The Afro Sheen commercials back then encouraged Black women to wear their own natural hair. I know everyone has seen "Crooklyn" and how they talked about the little Puerto Rican girl with the "good hair." Honestly, I have fallen into that category a little. I do not have a perm or put any chemicals in my hair (thankfully, I was born with a good head of hair) but I do press my hair out. I only wear it natural in the summer when it's hot. I have never had a weave also. I'm glad that Chris Rock thought about this and decided to make it a movie. Some Black girls have decided to go back to the natural look and wear their natural hair.

Celebrities are also channeling the natural look by shaving all their hair off (Solange) or "the Cassie" who has perfectly "good hair" and she goes and shave half of it off when thousands of girls are going out trying to buy hair that looks like hers. I don't know where African Americans stand with hair in our culture today but hopefully this movie can give us some answers. I want my future kids to grow up loving the hair that they will be blessed with whether it be curly and soft or kinky and natural. Whatever it may be, work with what you got and make it the best. No need to put all that stuff in your hair and damage it then end up cutting it because you wanna grow out your perm. I'm glad my mom always told me no when I asked to get a perm. I love my hair and I will never put any chemicals in it to straighten it. The only chemicals in my hair is blonde highlights and I'm growing them out now! But I hope we all learn something from this movie! Can't wait to see it!!!!
